Day 1

We will meet at Kiau Taburi Village, which is located at the foot hills of Mount Kinabalu. You will enjoy a scenic mountain view here. Later, we will have dinner and spend a night either at the Kiau Taburi Homestay or Tulinou Homestay.

03:00 PM - 08:00 PM

Day 2

We will have an early start with breakfast at 6.30am. At 7.00am, join me to explore the different bird species at Kiau Old Road. There are over 10 common bird species here and you will have a great time sighting birds of both the lowland and highland species, from an elevation of about 1,100 metres above sea level.

By 11.00am, we will make our journey back to the homestay for lunch and a short rest. At 1.00pm we will continue birding at the Gumbayong trail, which is about a 10-minute drive from the Kiau Taburi village. Here, you will be able to spot some rare bird species such as the Orange-Breasted Trogon, Red-Breasted Hill Partridge, Bornean Leafbird, Long-Tailed Broadbill and Whitehead’s Broadbill. After a satisfying round of birdwatching, by 4.00pm, we will make our way back to the homestay. Dinner will be served at 7.00pm, and you will have the rest of the night at your own leisure.

06:30 AM - 08:00 PM

Day 3

Today, we will start with breakfast at 5.30am and check out from the homestay by 7.00am. From here, we will head to the Kinabalu Park headquarters, which is located about 8km away from the Kiau Taburi Village. The drive there will take us about 15 minutes.

We will start our birding activities from as early as 6.30am. The location is at the Kinabalu Park headquarters, which is at an elevation of about 1,500 metres above sea level. This is the best location to spot Borneo's magnificent endemic montane birds, as you will be able to view the Whitehead's trio – Broadbill, Trogon and Spiderhunter.

After a wonderful morning of birdwatching session, at 11.00am we will have an early lunch at the Panataran Restaurant, which is situated on the opposite side of the entrance to the Kinabalu Park headquarters.

After lunch, at 1.00pm, we will continue our birdwatching activities at the Kinabalu Park trail. We will then leave by 3.00pm to the Kinabalu Park Poring Hot Springs, which is about 45 minutes away. Once we arrive, we will check-in at the Tropicana Lodge. You will be checked into a Standard-type room. After a short afternoon rest, we will then have dinner at the Tropicana Restaurant at 6.30pm.

05:30 AM - 08:00 PM

Day 4

We will have another early morning start with breakfast at 5.30am. By 6.30am, we will make our way to the Kinabalu Park Poring hot spring area, which is at an elevation of 550 metres above sea level. You will find it easy to spot birds on the canopy walk. Here, you will be able to feast your eyes on the resident birds – the Blue-banded Pitta, Banded Pitta, Chestnut-Capped Thrush, White Crowned and Chestnut-Naped Forktail, Blue-Banded Kingfisher, Roul Roul and Crested Jay. If you walk along the Laganan trail, you may be able to locate the Hose's Broadbill, Red-Naped Trogon and many other bulbul species.
After a spectacular birdwatching activity, we will stop to have an early lunch at 11.30am at the Tropicana Restaurant before making our way back to Kota Kinabalu at 2.00pm.

My dear friends from all around the world, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Kampung Kiau Taburi, a small village located on the foot hills of Mount Kinabalu (which is about 4,095.2 metres). This is the highest mountain in Malaysia and Borneo, and our kampung (village) is about 1000 metres above sea level.

I started becoming a mountain guide since 2005 and until today, I have guided thousands of climbers to the top of Mount Kinabalu. I obtained my nature guide license in 2011, and became a bird research helper at the Kinabalu Park in 2013. I then started my birding activities and became a birdwatching guide in 2014 after participating in a birdwatching course, which was held at the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge. The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu. I have my very own jungle trail, jungle camp and camping ground, and I am delighted to guide you in your exciting birding adventures around Mount Kinabalu.
